Tech weenie gotcha,

We tried to use a dialup modem under Win95 for autosync SDLC to the AS/400
and got a COM port already open error message.  Couldn't figure it out.
Checked everyting.  Clicked on control panel, modem, diagnostics, <select
com port to test>, more info.  This should result in a series of ATIn sent
to the modem with responses but we still got the COM port already open.  No
applications were running.  Perplexed.  

Thinking.......

Answer.......

Click control panel, accessibility options, general.  Verify that "serial
key devices box is not checked".  This was the problem.  Once unchecked, all
worked well.
