Now I suspect that may have been an >old wive's tale. So... how come we don't use a PC-based file system? >Booth Martin Booth Yes, (Above MI) It's "object orientated", so you ask for things by their proper name(Lib, Name, Type) instead of asking for things by their "Offset" address. And No. (Below MI) OS/400 of course uses pointers "alot". Like "Space Pointers", "Address/System Pointers", etc. And in our applications. Try passing a 50 byte parm to a program, and in the called program declare and use it as a 500 byte parm. As one of the developers of OS/400(ie CPF) sayed; "You will have a learning experience". John Carr P.S PC based file system? You do! Get on a command line and type the PC command "MD" for "Make Directory" like "MD BOOTH" unfortunetly the OS/400(and CPF) had a DSPDIR command already for years so they couldn't use that command, so now key in; "WRKLNK BOOTH" This will display the "PC" Directory you just created. Go to your real PC and if you're running the "Enhanced Client" you will see the directory you just created within the drive letter for the AS/400 (like I: or E:) We now have IFS. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MAJORDOMO@midrange.com | and specify 'unsubscribe MIDRANGE-L' in the body of your message. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
