Without a 'K' in the TCWORK 'F' spec to indicate indexed retreive, the
system is using relative record number.  Although this can be the
contents of a variable, ds name, I believe it must be numeric with 0 dec
positions.

Move TODAY to a numeric field and you should be OK.
