I just tried that code and got the following:

* QRG5184 Severity:  30   Number:    1                                     
          Message . . . . :   Factor 2 not valid for result-field entry of 
            *IN, *INxx, or *IN,xx. Specification ignored.                  

at the end of the compile listing. This was on a V3R7 box but with target
release V3R2. So the good old RPGIII compiler didn't like it.
