I've been watching this thread, and I agree. I'll go back to my "right tool for the right job" stance, and say that sometimes eight digit dates are required. Where possible, however, the user should only have to enter six. I know a guy that got eaten alive by his users for adding a SINGLE keystroke to a data entry screen...
