Actually, good automated testing software (AUTOTESTER comes to mind) does far more than just hammer keystrokes to the host. It also keeps track of what it *THINKS* the resultant screen should look like and reports descrpancies. Automatic testing programs are a PAIN to setup, but can be a life saver when you are making major changes to a highly configurable system.
