I've missed most of this thread due to hols but I know that the AS400 DASD is formatted at 520 bytes a sector whereas a PC disk requires 512. I've used a program called 520to512 (written by an IBMer) to reformat the AS400 drives to 512. I haven't tried a low level format but would be interested to know if this works.
