For those who will no doubt ask, SF38640 is for V3R7.
APAR SA61661 shows 'PTF not available yet' for V3R6.
I also see no equivalent 'CISC' system APAR (V3R2 or V3R1).

>From the SA61661 APAR record:

  PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Customers are attaching TCP/IP LAN printers directly to the
AS/400 using the existing LPR/LPD (remoute output queue)
support. There are many limitations with using the remote
output queue support for driving printers. This has created
much customer dissatisfaction. LAN-attached printers are
  becoming more widely used.

  PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
A print driver was added to drive HP-compatable network
  printers.

  COMMENTS:
This driver is designed to be used by natively attached printers
using TCPIP. The printer must use the PCL/PJL printer language,
these are principally HP type printers. The main functions
  provided are:
   - Returns printer generated status to the Operating System
   - Allows the use of PAGERANGE
   - Allows the use of FILESEP and JOBSEP (seperator pages)
