MICR Check Printing

We too are looking at MICR cheque printing.  But
we also want the software to print other forms instead
of cheques.  Our accounting department wants to get
rid of the majority of their pre-printed forms so this package
has to do much more than just cheque processing.

We looked at ACCOM.  This product resides on the
AS/400.  Makes overlay of current cheque forms.  It
stores logo and signature on the AS/400 as special
fonts.  When presentation was made it was recommended
that we go with an ACCON printer that can use cartriges that
are removable because it would be faster than downloading fonts
from the AS/400.  Also, can lock up font cartriges (more secure). 
Just picking the highlights from my notes.

We looked at JetForm Products from Moore Business Systems.
This product was more expensive but they had a wide range of
products for different platforms.  See their web site at

Moore designed most of our preprinted forms but now that we
are looking to do away with all preprinted forms they are worried
about loosing our business.  Looked at just getting a solution for
printing cheques then looked at a solution for doing all forms 
including cheques.

As of today we still have not implemented any because we want
to research more of the forms design players on the market.  We
found that just purchasing the product for cheques was not cost
effective.  Makes more sense to purchase a product to design 
the majority of forms on multiple platforms.  

We want to buy a product that works well with JDE on the AS/400, 
Unix, and the PC.
