ODBC error using ACCESS to transfer records to the AS/400 -- MIDRANGE-L

We are running an ACTION query in Microsoft Access/97 to append about 80,000 
records to a "linked" AS/400 file via CA/95 ODBC.  It appends 65,497 records 
and then errors out with a ODBC32.DLL page fault error.  It doesn't matter 
which files we attempt to append, it always errors out after 65,497 records.

Both IBM and Microsoft's technical support folks are pointing fingers at each 
other.

Has anyone run across this problem in the past?  Does anyone have any ideas?
