I might consider something like this: A keyed COMMENTS file; two keys. Key1 = the source document type (P.O., Sales, etc.), and Key2 = the document number. Key 1 might be two or three alpha characters and key 2 would need to be as long or longer than the longest document number. Probably it would need to be an alpha field. Now each comment could be tied to a document. Where a comment links to several documents I would probably have two, three, or how ever many copies of the whole record in the comment file. Extra copies of a few comments will probably be a whole lot easier to progam, administer, and store than creating a dozen or more logicals.
