DFRWRT(*NO) postpones writing data to the display until a read (either a READ or EXFMT) is performed. This reduces traffic on the line which is especially important for remote sites. It is necessary to override this from time to time when you wish to display a status message to a user with reading any data from the display. Originally, IBM made this a file level keyword but somwhere around Version 7 of CPF it became a record level keyword which is much more pratical.
