I'm sorry you had this incident; one is one too many. That must have be one HECK of a surge! I have a client that, until March, was running an old 5363 S/36. They moved to a brand-new building in which one of the transformers was somehow mis-wired. Ever seen one one of the original Star Trek episodes (Kirk and Spock) where they're taking damage and you get those loud "WHUMP" sounds followed by puffs of smoke coming out of various consoles all over the bridge? That's how it was all over their 20K square-foot customer service area! The plastic casing of their BEST system melted TO THE FLOOR, but there was no damage to their 5363. I was EXTREMELY impressed, and cannot IMAGINE what it would take to actually cause damage... JMHO, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
