What about archiving spools to tape.  There is software available to do
this.  The index of archived files is stored on the as400.  Select the
report you want to view and the software restores it from tape.  The
restore is slow, but doesn't take up many CPU cycles.  The 3595 tape drive
holds 330 gigs (11 tapes of 30 gigs), that should be plenty.
