Thanks John. I was aware of the difference. The questions was rather
clumsily phrased in that fashion because I
approached it from the idea of using the two tools in tandem.

I've been reading my manuals and RPG IV course, and I can only assume
that where a trigger (or R/I constraint) causes the issue of an escape
message, then my RPG should be using the newly enhanced error handling
routines.

Since most of our code is sill languishing in RPG/III and RPG/400
territory, I understandably don't get much opportunity to look at this
- any guidelines you might have would be of great interest.
