I am a bit confused. If you are connecting via the ASCII controller you
would not have a line/ctrl/dev desc. The ASCII controller works like the
twinax controller. Devices are created using the CRTDEVDSP command. If you
are running CA or another SNA product over it, then the system will create
the necessary APPC controller and devices to support each session you start.

First try something simple. Define a device using the something like 3164
or other terminal emulation to see if you can get it to work. Be sureyou
are using a null modem cable and have the modem configed properly. The
ASCII controller is very picky about how modems are configed. We use
USRobotics modems exclusivly because we have found them to be cheap,
reliable and easy to configure and use the same modem config on each. I can
send you that if you desire.

Sometimes APPC over async can be a pain in the butt. We use it but use IBMs
Personal Comm product rather than CA/400. It you still can't get it to work
let me know. maybe you can try to dial one of our boxes to see if your
client or AS400 side is giving you problems,

Regards,
Carl

PS. I travel quite a bit so somethings it takes me a while to respond.
