What does the HTTP error log have to say about it?

Have you tried displaying the images in your browser by browsing the IFS
as a network drive. I.e., get a shared folder connection, then open the
gifs as local files in the browser. If they look okay, then you can rule
out corrupted image files.

In netscape, do you see anything at all in place of the gifs? (Like the
"broken image" image.)
