Job Summary
The Senior IBM i Engineer is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure and will be accountable for the following: IBM i systems on various levels of OS/ Power System hardware that support the Enterprise infrastructure. This position can be located in either of our headquarters: Framingham, MA or Broomfield, CO.
Job Responsibilities
* Support mission critical systems in an enterprise, highly available environment
* Reporting system health and performance data using PM 400, evaluating DASD utilization across partitions, analysis of performance reports and automation of generated reports
* Recommend, plan and execute installation and configuration of IBM i servers and related components in the enterprise
* Ensure high levels of availability and security for business applications and will participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure IBM i system provisioning and support is consistent with company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements (SOX, PCI, etc.)
* Perform installation, upgrade, configuration, deployment and administration of IBM i operating systems and power hardware
* Coordinates OS version upgrades, PTF’s, software fixes and preventative maintenance to minimize risk and service disruptions
* Resolve complex issues and implement projects at an advanced technical level regarding IBM i systems operations
* Ensure user satisfaction by providing installation, configuration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and quickly resolving complex problems
* Resolve availability, capacity and performance issues
* Ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency
* Analyze and evaluate IBM i systems operations and provide technical direction and recommendations to improve service levels
* Implement automation procedures and tools to optimize staff and computing resources and their availability
* Collaborates with application support staff to design and provision services, and troubleshoot problems
* Provide after-hours and weekend support as needed

Basic
* 10+ years of experience as an AS/400, iSeries, IBM i administrator with current knowledge on i5/OS (V6R1, V7R1)
* Experience with hardware design, installation, and system performance
Preferred
* Seasoned problem solving abilities
* Expert knowledge on system performance and related tools (iDoctor, Performance Navigator, Performance collection services)
* Expert hardware design and installation knowledge
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, peers, and internal customers
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively, work well with others, exercise sound judgment, and display initiative and innovation on the job
* RPG, C, C++ proficiency
