Paul,

RE your question: "We are writing a clone restricted version of the WRKSPLF
command and want to
duplicate the option '7' feature (Display spooled file messages)..."

Not sure why you want to call an (evidently, undocumented) API/system program
just to duplicate some of the functionality of the WrkSplF command (or enhance
same). One idea about message handling would be to capture message information
from the job associated with the spool file against which option 7 is
requested, and then display that message information. I would think that would
give you similar functionality to that provided by the QSPDSPFM system program,
although I don't have an AS/400 handy, just now, to test it.

A neat way to provide a WrkSplf "look-alike" (not necessarily "clone") is to
use the UIM. The User Interface Manager makes it easy to provide IBM-like
"work with" tools, and it is very easy to add list options to user written
tools with UIM.

And (what is more relevant to this list), wouldn't it be cool to implement the
non-display logic of a WrkSplF "clone" with MI? that way, you could run it
recursively, which you can't do with RPG. And, it would run very, very fast.
Wouldn't be hard to call the various API's related to the User Interface Manger
set-up with MI code. Fun project.

I'm sure you know that there are several spool file retrieval API's documented
in the System API manuals, such as QUsrSplA, which should give you about
everything you might need. Hope this helps.
