Building OS/400 Program Products (was MS to publish source code of windows)

You can (sorta) use the same platform as Rochester if you wish - I believe
it is based on the Carnegie Melon Andrew workbench.  Not sure how much is
still done on the VM systems - the 400s are powerful enough now.  In the
S/38 and early 400 days there were two problems, no version control/build
tool that was complex enough and could run on the S/38 etc.  Also there was
not enough horsepower to do the builds so the MI object was built on VM and
then downloaded for the final part of the build - even that was slower than
Christmas!

I think the builds are now done on a combination of RS/6000 and iSeries -
possibly the really old stuff like SEU <grin> RPG/400 and COBOL/400 are
still done on the big iron - not even certain of that.
