Well, the CVTCH and CVTHC *are* confusing. Have gotten me too quite a few times. They should have been: CVTCH : CVTHB convert hexadecimal character representation to binary CVTHC: CVTBH convert binary to hexadecimal character representation. so that CVTCH (CVTHB) BINCHAR, X'F1F2' ==> BINCHAR now contains X'F1F2' CVTHC (CVTBH) HEXCHAR, BINCHAR ===> HEXCHAR now contains C"F1F2" ----- Original Message ----- From: Harry Williams <planesmart@teleteam.net> To: <mi400@midrange.com> Sent: Saturday, May 04, 2002 12:21 PM Subject: Re: [MI400] CVTCH run problem > -- > [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] > Thanks Leif, > I guess I need to learn how to read better. > > > Leif Svalgaard wrote: > > >From: Harry Williams <planesmart@teleteam.net> > > > > > >>ENTRY * ; > >>DCL DD FST CHAR(1) ; > >>DCL DD SCD CHR(2) ; > >>CPYBLA FST,'H'; > >>CVTCH SCD(1:2) , FST(1:1) ; > >>RTX *; > >> > >>I get > >>Scaler data cannot be changed to the type required by instruction MCH1201 > >> > >>Any Suggestions? > >> > >> > > > >Harry, > >You have been misled by the operation code: > >Convert Characters to Hex CVTCH > > > >What you wanted was > >Convert Hex to Characters CVTHC. > > > >What IBM meant with 'hex' is just binary, not the > >character hexadecimal representation. > > > > > > > > > >_______________________________________________ > >This is the MI Programming on the AS400 / iSeries (MI400) mailing list > >To post a message email: MI400@midrange.com > >To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > >visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/mi400 > >or email: MI400-request@midrange.com > >Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > >at http://archive.midrange.com/mi400. > > > > > > > > > > > -- > > _______________________________________________ > This is the MI Programming on the AS400 / iSeries (MI400) mailing list > To post a message email: MI400@midrange.com > To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, > visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/mi400 > or email: MI400-request@midrange.com > Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives > at http://archive.midrange.com/mi400. >
