As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

  It hasn't.  I was just saying that the official line is that API 
interfaces and result structures are supported from release to release 
(although that hasn't been 100% true) which is not true for MI.

  I'm sure that there is *some* MI code that you have written that behaved 
differently or is now incomplete between releases, no?  Whether is happened 
or not, is less material than the official IBM line, which is that is CAN 
happen.  I would also like to suggest that IBM drop that official line, due 
to the historical reality that it hasn't really happened.
