Another instance of the pgmrs adage that you should read the freaking manual
before you ask the question!!

"The AS/400® provides what is known as a single-level storage (SLS) model.
All processes share a single, 64-bit address space, which is partitioned
into 16 MB (where MB equals 1,048,576 bytes) segments. The segment is the
basic unit of storage allocation throughout the system. Although the SLS
model provides many benefits to the AS/400 in terms of efficiency,
scalability, and integrity, segmented storage poses a problem. There is no
way to obtain contiguous storage in excess of 16 MB. The illusion of a
larger contiguous storage can be created, but only with considerable expense
in terms of program design and performance. This poses a problem for main
storage intensive applications as they are scaled up to support more users
or larger systems."
