Leif, what's stopping them from using some of those leading zeros as real address bits in some future release?  As long as nothing requires them to be zero, they would be backwards compatible.

in C (the new compiler) and in Java addresses are 64 bits. I bet a lot of code will break if that goes up to
say 80 bits. But, hey, I don't want to start a war here. I was just trying to explain to Steve where the
limit came from.
