Uh, Gene, how does one get to actually see all 32 lines before they scroll off the screen? By the time the rexx program ends, I see only the last 6 lines. I think I got the word "the" so far, and maybe "that", but I need to see more of what's scrolling off the screen. Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 ------------------ Original Message ------------------ The book's cipher challenge stage 1 is a simple monoalphabetic substitution cipher. In this e-mail below is a copy of the book's stage 1 cipher in a REXX program for AS/400. With a five minute "fun" break you can break it. Upload this source to a member of type REXX. On green-screen WRKMBRPDM & SEU use option 16, 2, 16, 2 etc. to run and edit the REXX. Little by little, replace the 26 blanks in the variable 'TO' with monoalphabetic substitutions below the variable 'FROM'. Eventually the plaintext message will appear. <snip> +--- | This is the MI Programmers Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MI400@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MI400-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MI400-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: dr2@cssas400.com +---
