Our current GL structure in Mapics is XXXX(account)-XXX(product code)-XXX(department). We have Mapics item accounting class setup.

I am able to join OEXITN (GL interface) with MBDDREP (shipment release file) to find out which product group's revenue and cost got recorded to which GL account. I am able to produce product PL down to contribute margin line.

We have about 400 customers (customer ID was stratified further by geographic locations such as Kroger, Kroger-Atlanta), ideal situation is that we can produce major customer PL, if one customer's profitability is poor, we like to know which product results in poor profitability.

To achieve that, we think about modifying our current GL code. We just implemented F9 for financial reporting purpose, at this point, I am not sure we like to implement another reporting tool.

Thank you

Shirley

There is a possibility that the ControllerVision application may be able
to get you the results that you need .
I is dependent on how your structure is currently defined.
Give me a call and we can discuss your exact requirement.

The GL was never intended to do product or customer level profitability
analysis; maybe down to a profit center level (plant or subsidiary) is
about
as far as you should go. I suspect you find yourself right now with a
HUGE
number of GL accounts and GLI rules. Ideally you could use XA's sales
history and standard/actual costs to create a data base (SQL?) of data
that
represents invoice line items and special charges +
commission/rebate/promotion date. At that point you use SQL Reporting
Services or INFOR PM10 or Cognos (via INFOR) to provide the reports you
need.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Mapics's GL Accounting Code Structure

Hi there,

Our company's current GL accounting code was designed to conduct product
PL
analysis. Product ID is part of GL code, one of the segments.

If we like to analyze customer PL, would that be possible to do? We
consider two options, leave current GL codes intact, create
another set of GL code for customer only. We have three companies right
now, each company has its own set of GL. We can create company 4
for customer oriented GL entries.

Another option is to modify current GL code, add customer ID as part of
GL
segment. Problem of this option is GL code exceeded 15 digits, secondly
Can product and customer GL coexist in Mapics?

I do not know whether this is feasible to do, any implications to
existing
GL interfaces with other Mapics applications like COM, AR, AP, IM etc.

Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Any Mapics GL consultant is
welcomed to explore potential consulting project with us

The purpose of this project is to make creation of our company's product
PL
and customer PL before contribution margin line possible

Thank you so much
