Roger,
Do a copy file (or display it) of your item master to display the HEX format. We once had a similar experience and found blank's were not true blanks (x'40') In our case, it was a trailing character that looked like a space, but was simply not a displayable character.

Ed

Subject: [MAPICS-L] MAPICS REL 9 - offline file loading of the ITEM BALANCE file
I am building a new release 9 environment for an additional site. I
successfully loaded the item master file using off-line file load, then
used this newly built item master file in the building of the IBLDSK file
(using the newly expanded TMP113 with the additional fields that can be
loaded to the item balance file with R9) to load balance records.
I receive message AMX3216 ITEM NOT FOUND for all 4000+ items I am working
with. I have tried to check the item master to make sure the item numbers
do not have a 'leading space' and then did the same with the IBLDSK file.
I have also attempted the load both from running the off-line load from
Cross-Ap and also from the off-line load option in inventory management.
Has anyone run item balance off-line load in release 9? Or does anyone
have any other suggestions?
Thanks
