We are in the process of the culture change that comes with finite capacity promising and planning.
The Flex program was the spring board from XA MPSP MRP CRP to Advanced Planner which really opened our eyes.
Fantastic view of reality. Not always pretty.
A few pegging queries and everyone could see what was going on in relation to customer order dates.
It's not that is wasn't there it's just that we could not easily see.
Our products share many common components and we were always stealing parts at the final assembly phase.
The forecast was always off because we could not accurately predict the exact variations in the final product configuration.
MPSP MRP CRP with ATP did not help us give accurate delivery dates.
AVP exposed the real problem and CSW (Customer Service Workbench) with ThruPut is helping us nail the dates down.
From Order entry through Assemble to Order.
CSW was unfortunately not available with AVP.
Not sure why that is because as stated before AVP is a subset of ThruPut.
We now have visibility and synchronization and more predictable dates for our customers.
AVP with ATP would have been enough if we did not offer such custom assembled products.
Culture Change is the longest and hardest part as usual.
Installation was very short and simple really.
The more you are actually using XA for daily operations the better.
I will wrap up this rant.
If you would like more info.
Feel free to contact me.

We have been very successful with Thru-Put as a finite, constraint based scheduler. Although it is sold by Infor, it is a free standing windows based application with interface to XA and some other ERPs I believe. I would be happy to answer questions on our use offline if you want.

Anyone on the list know of an i Series based, finite capacity, production scheduling package?
Want to interface to MAPICS to do both short term scheduling of firm and open shop orders as well as long term scheduling of the full production plan.

I'd suggest that your client read their INFOR Master Licence Agreement (more important if it was IBM, Marcam or MAPICS, Inc.). They should be made aware of the audit requirements of their agreement.

My client is pretty insistent that the solution be non-Infor.

Roy, yes there is one out there. I'm on vacation and don't have access to all my notes, but Google 'VAI ERP software' and you should find a link to their site. They have an excellent product, and I'm 99% sure it has an FCPS module.
I can assist you further tomorrow after I get back to my office.
