From my recent experience with the Rename Environment Tool (SH12135), I would like to see Infor redesign the Tool to a series of menu options.

1. Check the source environment for these offending object types, that Ed listed below.
2. Check the source environment for library object locks.
3. Check the source environment for existence of trigger programs, and a count of the number of records with the source env's TRGMST.
4. Execute the Rename of the environment, having executed Option 1 and Option 2 and Option 3 again.
5. Count the number of records in target env's TRGMST, and prompt to install the trigger programs.
6. Create and start journaling, like is done in CAS.
7. Execute Install/Tailor (R78 Environments)

As the Tool stands now, especially with the existence of *JRNRCV's and *SQLPKG's in our AMFLIB's from other applications to Microsoft Access users, a customer is very likely to have a mess on their hands with this error message and with about 2 out of 4 libraries renamed, the others not renamed.

The other *GOTCHA experienced, post execution of the Rename Tool on a freshly migrated R78 env, was after executing STRSQL followed by SELECT * FROM qsys2/sysroutine WHERE ROUTINE_NAME = 'GETCURRVA'. Chances are good that a customer will see the former library and not the new library there. Without running Install/Tailor, immediately after the execution of the Rename Tool on a R78 environment, there are some icons on a record's card file within PowerLink that will not work. An error message to the effect that *PGM does not exist in the *LIBL appears, and unsuspectingly, the problem does not exist with your MMLIST record. It exists in this table in a library called QSYS2, of all places!!!

It's not surprising that Weston stays away from the Rename Tool and does things the old fashioned way within CAS. The Tool needs to be redesigned. I'll even settle for getting all of the *GOTCHA's on the cover letter until it can get redesigned.

I used the rename tool during our migration to R7.8 and it failed during a pre-migration test. The Message CPF2136 indicated a library could not be renamed due to objects that are not allowed in the library during a rename. (Journal Receiver/Journal file in my case) The tool does not check for the existence of other receivers and journals beyond the standard. I was able to use the tool and save lots of time during a long enough weekend! Recommend testing and have a back-up before using the tool.

But the good news, keeping the library named as before allowed no worries about ODBC links failing.

It would be nice if the rename tool discussed this or checked it systematically before altering the environment - it just ends without notification and the environment is half renamed; so unusable.

In our case I just deleted the objects, that caused the problem before using the tool.

CPF2136 also has other object type's that could cause a failure - see sample message...:
Message . . . . : Renaming library MYLIBRARY (AMFLIBx, AMALIBx, etc) failed.
Cause . . . . . : Library MYLIBRARY cannot be renamed because it contains one
of the following object types.
-- CRG
-- DTADCT
-- JRN
-- JRNRCV
-- SQLPKG
-- SQLUDT
Recovery . . . : Either try renaming another library or delete the objects
of the types listed above and try the request again.

I would not use the rename tool. Do it the old fashion way and use the
create environment tool.
I try the rename tool once and the results were not pretty. At the end
of the day you will be much happier
using the environment tools in CAS.
