In response to discussion on PM I need to clarify the statement
"Accounting was looking for the equivalent of FRX". FRx was a good tool
for generating reports based on G/L transactions (at my previous
employer we used it with great success.) In this case it (or PM BEFR)
does not completely fit the comapany's needs - they also want to
generate reports with a wide variety of statistics (including head
counts, booking information by market segment, product lines, key
customers, etc.) not found in GL. Yes, Accounting could create G/L dummy
accounts to transact that sort of data into Temgen/Gelmas, but didn't
want to go that route. Analysis by the Infor PM specialists concluded
that PM BEFR functionality was too restrictive to fill the bill.
Management wanted a list of reports and but had no interest in full
blown BI. Why? No interest in using a BI tool for adhoc or what-if
analysis. Therefore full blown PM was considered to be overkill for just
implementing automatic report generation. As someone mentioned earlier,
executive support is critical for BI success.
