Chris,
I will reply privately with some specific steps to check your installation.
There is an IWP TCP Monitor that needs to be started so Jacana and Valet can
connect. Since IWP was installed at Tempco long ago, you may not have
licenses applied for Jacana or Valet. There should be no charge from Infor
to request.
You may also want to upgrade IWP depending on your release level - anything
prior to 8.0 will not work with the latest version of Jacana. You can
download the latest CD (which supports V6R1) from the Infor Download center.
It includes instructions for upgrading and getting the TCP Monitor
configured. I recommend doing a non-default install to a new set of
libraries to test your subsets and reports before upgrading a live install.

Greg,
Is there any documentation on getting Jacana running. I am stuck at
'connecting' to the library. I have LConnect running on my client
through TCPIP, but connection is never made.

Allow me to jump in and dispel the myth that IWP is green screen only.
The
Windows based report designer is named Jacana and has been the primary
focus
for reporting for a number of years. Jacana is amazingly powerful with
the
ability to create calculations, sort, total, summarize, etc. including
some
nifty tricks that cannot be handled by Query or SQL. This is an
application
designed to produce complex reports in an easy interface. We also have
Valet, the Windows application for running reports and organizing
collections of reports.
While Jacana and Valet are easy to use components of IWP, there is some
training that should be taken to understand how IWP functions. Working
with
IWP subsets can make report development simple - a number of subsets are
provided by Infor, and you can create your own. A little training goes
a
long way to understanding those parts that make IWP seem complex and
confusing.

Kevin,
We don't have system-link here yet. I saw the feature in the docs about
pulling request info right from XA's menu, but IWP is still green screen
only.
Our Mapics admin here is trying to get system-link approved. The use
would be to integrate a SQL database as well as post updates to the
AS400 server via web service.
Is this what I can expect from system-link?

IWP hard to maintain?! That's a first!
select the system link menu option and you will get the sql statement.
Don't forget about security.

We have been using IWP reports for quite a while now but it's not easy
to work with and no one wants to maintain it within our company anymore.
I want to get all the report definitions out of Mapics and create SQL
Select queries using the .NET data provider. Any thoughts on how to get
the report definitions off the AS400 so that I can parse them out into
SQL queries?
