I'll add my 2 cents here as well on the general NMS process. Simply put,
it is buggy and provides almost no visibility to what is happening. I
probably have put in 20+ incidents in the past 2 years around this. Some
of the issues i have found are related to the fact a "host job"
may update a field, and they do not write directly to the maintenance
history files which Publish/Subscribe feeds off of. So the field you want
to trigger, does not get picked up in the maintenance history, so the
publish/subscribe does not kick off the event. The NMS has too much
noise to be of great help, but sometimes it does show you issues like if a
firewall is rejecting e-mails being forwarded. The Logs should have
detail in it, so not sure what is going on there. It would be nice to
have completely visbility to what the NMS is processing without all the
"junk".

Note a word of advice too. If you setup subscriptions, but then shut down
NMS, when you do start it up, it WILL PROCESS all unprocessed. I had a
customer who set this up, and thought turning off NMS would stop them.
Well it did. But 6 months later, he decided to work with NMS, started up
NMS, it processed 6 months worth of unprocessed e-mails to customers and
rep's! so be aware of this.

It would be of trendous value to us if Infor put a "pretty face" over this
process. It has A TON OF VALUE and when it works, it's slick.

Anyway, good luck. Side note. Can you get a very simple subscription to
work? In other words, you know the iSeries if forwarding them. (So assume
you have isolated it to this subscription and not just general
Publish/Subscribe setup issues). Be curious whats your subset/criteria is
built over to trigger this. I could test this on my box to see if it works
for me (so need to know attribute selections and if on create/change or
both)

Thanks for all your replies, but the tips seem to be directed toward
debugging submitted jobs. This is getting run interactively. I am simply
entering a customer order and we have a subscription on the CO Line
Items business object. It calls a program that prints what we call a
'special ticket' for items we deem as specials. It is a very simple
thing which is what frustrates me. We are on Rel. 7 of Mapics and have
been for quite some time.

Our NMS service is started, but the log tab doesn't show us any logs.

Has anyone run into problems getting a debug to stop on a subscription
or user exit?

One thing I noticed from Kevin Gerard's tips: It says that once the
submitted job is released, it should have the Start Service Job panel
displayed. Mine does not. In fact it rolls straight through as if no
debug or service job was ever started.

Voltz: Thanks for the reply, Smart Guy. Never changed, huh? ;-)

What release are you on? I'm on 7.7, and I have the log tab in Link
Manager. At one point I modified the logging options for this service
by putting a MyTraceOptions.xml in the /MAPICS/properties/my directory
(auxilliary server), but I don't think this should change the basic
logging properties. In other words, I think you should have that log
and the job detail in it. Maybe support can direct you to the
appropriate log file in the IFS.

Is the NMS service started? If so, it seems this may be a difference in
XA versions.

Good luck.

Josh

Thanks, Josh, but I wasn't able to find a log tab in NMS. Some of the
other jobs have logs, but not NMS. Like I said, thanks, but it seems to
be another dead end.

I think publish subscribe works off of the NMS job. If you open Link
Manager and expand the application server group, there should be a job
labeled NMS. If you highlight that and scroll through the log tab, it
should give you the job information. I would try the strsrvjob on the
job listed in this log and see what you get.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Debug problems

Everyone,

I'm needing to get debug to work in both a Mapics User Exit
and simply a program that runs just a little 'behind the scenes'. By
using STRSRVJOB and STRDBG I am able to get a program to stop at my
breakpoints IF I am trying to stop a program that is getting called
directly from the browser, such as clicking on a radio button to run a
job. But, when I try to stop a program that is called from an Integrator
subscription or a user exit, it will not stop at my breakpoints.

In the archives, I found where someone suggested using
DSPMODSRC to set breakpoints but that doesn't work either. I'm getting
seriously frustrated with this. Can anyone tell me how to get my
debugger to stop when using a subscription and/or user exit.

Any help is much appreciated (as always)
