I do a ton of remote development on many boxes. It has been my experience
if using just VPN it typically is not sufficient. We recommend to our
clients, Remote Desktop/Citrix type solutions for remote access; This is
for development or someone using Power link extensively all day.
It however depends on the pipeline and connection. Sometimes VPN alone is
"okay" if you have a fast pipeline. Almost all our international installs
have to use a Citrix type application however.. Now having said that Infor
promises Rel 7.8 to be "much faster" for remote connectivity (I think
they are redesigning to make less chatter from a network perspective).
Perhaps someone from Infor that reads these posts can comment in more
detail on productivity improvements with Rel 7.8 in regards to straight
remote VPN access. (as someone could waste a sizeable investement only to
find out in rel 7.8 it is fine with just remote VPN connectvity)

Subject: [MAPICS-L] XA7 Powerlink Initial Sign-on Delays?
I have a customer that experiences long initial sign-on delays when
accessing XA 7.7 Power-Link applications from remote locations -
sometimes
up to a minute or more.
Are others experiencing this? Has anyone come up with any
work-arounds?
