We are running Infor XA 7.7 Level 6638 since July 2008.
Between Christmas 2008 and New Year 2009, we upgraded all partitions from i5/OS V5R3 to V6R1 and replaced one of our two 550 servers (Power 5+ chips) with a new M50 server (Power 6 chips) in a regular rotation of servers. We upgraded Power Link to the current level of 40.93 at the same time because we experienced some issues with managing purhase orders in Procurement Management.
We received immediate feedback that Power Link performance on the older 550 server was considerably slower. The new M50 is so much faster that we are either hiding performance issues with horsepower or V6R1 works much better on Power 6 chips than it does on Power 5+ chips.
We are having conversations with Infor, another Infor XA customer, and IBM, and several of my staff are reviewing our options. We have taken several incremental steps and we have found some performance gains but our users still report that Power Link is slower than before the upgrade:
1. We reallocated some CPU processing power to the XA partition and experienced some improvement;
2. We have installed several Infor XA PTF's that pertain to performance with limited results;
3. We have reallocated memory to the XA partition to reduce paging and saw probably the largest improvement;
4. We are reorganizing Infor XA tables this weekend with unknown results.
We have discovered several other things that concern us:
1. The Infor XA ACSAPPLY process is not working on V6R1 and Infor is working on this problem;
2. Infor XA uses the Classic IBM Java Virtual Machine and several programs are hard-coded to that JVM;
3. Infor is testing the newer JVM for us, which IBM claims to have performance advantages over Classic;
4. Our users are complaining about performance on client server applications that use the ASNA engine too.
We are reviewing how Infor XA and our own applications use the query optimization engines to see how often we are using the new more optimized engine. We are looking at the QAQQINI tables, SQL statements, and reviewing indexes. There is a clear advantage to pointing SQL statements at the physical tables instead of logical indexes and asking the query optimizer to ignore indexes containing selects and omits (which is the new V6R1 default value).
If anyone has additional suggestions or knowledge, please share it with the community.

Hello group,
I'm wondering if anyone who is on Release 6 or Release 7 has upgraded to
the latest OS 6.1 or V6R1. If so, can you share any viewpoint on
performance or any other aspect of running XA/MAPICS R6 or R7 on the new
OS. We are considering moving forward with this new OS level as we are
currently on V5R3 and have hope of increasing performance with our R7.7
Power-Link applications. We do not want to impact the performance of
our R7 Power-Link users if this OS version is unwise to move onto at
this time. Any experience your willing to share would be greatly
appreciated or contact me directly. Thanks.
