Hi David,
The following information is from Denise Luther, if you have questions
or would clarification please feel free to contact her.
If you want to extend the mapics item master, use additional fields in a
secondary object to contain the elements of the description. These
elements would be on a card with drop downs (use code files or discrete
domains to define content of the drop down).
Then use the integrator user exits or a trigger program to construct the
description and update the field where the description is stored.
If you are not extending a mapics object, you can create a primary
business object for the file that will contain the elements of the
description and then use a trigger program to populate the description.
There is a special trigger program that works with integrator business
objects that provides communication of errors and default field
generation if your application requires it.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] R6 Integrator question
We are at Release 6. I need to be able to build a part description
based on the attributes of the part, using a series of drop down
selection boxes. For example, from drop down box 1 "gear motor" is
selected, then drop down box 2 displays for a selection of applicable
horsepowers, then drop down box 3 displays for a selection of applicable
gear ratios, then drop down box 4 displays for a selection of applicable
bore sizes. From these selections, I would generate a part description
of "GMTR,.25HP,8.2:1,20MM" to accurately describe this part - a .25
horsepower gear motor with a 8.2:1 gear ratio and a 20mm bore.
Is there a way to do this within Integrator? If so, how might I best
accomplish this? My knowledge of Integrator is somewhat limited, so the
more detail you can provide, the better.
Thanks...
