MAPICS WIP records accumulate costs as transactions are processed - material
issues, shop activity, miscellaneous costs, scrap, etc. When you receive the
end item back to stock (RM transaction), the order is credited with the
(std) value of the completed items. Any difference (positive or negative
variance) remains in the WIP system until the order is purged.

You can set up GL interfaces to book from individual transactions and/or
closeout variances or you can create manual entries and manual
reconciliation at closeout. The closeout entries would not be made until the
order is purged so, yes, these variances are 'unapplied' until you do so.

There is a chapter in my book "MAPICS Shop Activity Control" that explains
the whole WIP costing system, if you want to do some reading. I have a small
quantity left if you want to buy one ($40 including postage) drop me an
email.

subject: [MAPICS-L] Applying cost without closing MO's

Every month we leave a larger number of our MO's open due to the way we
operate our business. I am told that this cause costs to ramain unapplied
and we need to back into cost of sales.

Is there a way to apply cost for labor and materials at the time of the
transaction instead when we close MOs?
