RunRmtCmd works well (horrible error feedback), but it will not call a
windows batch file, only exe.
We had a similar project years ago to print the router & drawing to the
same network printer.
It was an interesting challenge, but getting jobs processed & printed in
the same order
from dissimilar platforms (AS/400 & Oracle) did not work - timing was
always off.
But consider this, what about placing the control elsewhere? For example
if the request
for jobs was windows based, you could, from windows trigger and manage the
printing
of the dwg and the router more efficiently.
Regardless, we have RPG programs that launch windows exe's, we also
process
AS400 data using windows batch/ftp/exe's. We also developed, but never
used,
a window batch that prints routers when the job number is passed.
We also discovered that when going from the PC side, if you remotely call
a
program that processes data, it appears to have authority issues. I don't
think a restricted logon inherits properly. We solved this by remotely
calling
a CL that calls a CL that calls the RPG data processing program.
With all that said, best of luck to you, and if you want more info just
let me know.

Re: [MAPICS-L] Generating blueprints with shop packets
Has anyone ever had any luck using RUNRMTCMD? :-)
Sounds like a good job for plain old windows batch files.

Hi Dave,
I have the exact same requirement ... print the attachments when
printing the shop packet.
I already tried using the MEDIAF and ATTACH physical files to get the
attachment (link) and then execute the RUNRMTCMD command, but didn't
get
good results. Any suggestions?

[MAPICS-L] Generating blueprints with shop packets
Hello all,
I once again find myself in need of support from the learned members of
this august body. (Oops, been watching CSPAN again!) Seriously, I
would
like to have my MAPICS shop packets also print a copy of the blueprints
automatically. We are on XA/R6 (sigh), using EPDM. I know there's an
attachment file for each item that I can use to load the file names of
the
blueprints, plus the obvious Engineering Drawing Number in the ITMRVA
record. We'd have to use the attachment file, since we frequently have
multiple prints for each item.
Surely someone out there has done this already - it's far too obvious.
I
have wanted to try this for a long time, but until recently we used a
stone-age (1994) DOS-based CAD package and there would be no chance of
the
i5 printing THAT! If anyone is doing this, I would greatly appreciate
any
suggestions as to how it was done. I was thinking of changing the shop
packet print program (we had to customize ours to conform to union
contract
requirements, so I already own that code), to close the print file at
the
end of each order, call a print command for the blueprint(s) for the end
item (we use AutoDesk/Inventor), then go to the next order and reopen
the
print file. That will create a gazillion and two print files during MRP
Order Release and slow down the processing, but I can deal with that.
Help?
