Someone had mentioned in one of the earlier posts that there were
enhancements available for XA Release 7 that allowed for batch
submission of archive tasks.

The ability to do that was part of a series of enhancements that were
put out in PTFs and were also included in the last PCM for Release 7.

What the enhancement does in a nutshell is:

- provides the ability to submit the archive function to batch,
although the ability to submit to a specific job queue is not supported.
The queue used by the application's batch processes is used since it is
a part of the XA application processing.

- provides the ability to specify a requested date and time for
the job to start. That allows you to run it at a slower time of the day
or off-hours (if that's possible). The job is submitted with a delay in
effect. By not entering a date/time, the job is executed in the sequence
it is in the queue.

- provides for selecting a specific tape device for the
archive.

- the COM archive function will prompt you to initialize tapes
if required (that's part of the already existing function).

Some caveats:

- when the process is submitted to batch, all of the functions
expect the properly initialized tape/s to be prepared and available on
the selected device. It does not prompt an operator to mount the tape/s.

e. g. for IM you will have to have an IMHIST tape in the device.

- the batch process does NOT allow for tape initialization

- one tape device is used for the archive (which means you may
have to switch tapes if it runs over one volume).

Hope this helps a little.
