They are obviously talking about COM orders. The time that it takes to
archive/purge is totally ridiculous and not practical but you have no other
choice but to use what they give you! Due to the time that it takes to do
this, I had to write a custom purge for a client to replace the MAPICS
process.

For which orders? MOs? POs? What sort of 400 are you running?

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Archive Hell

Hi List,

I've complained about the archive procedure before but it is really
really crap. It is an unbelievably slow interactive process!

I need to archive about 300,000 orders and have already gone into work 5
times on the weekends to run the interactive procedure. I figure I
still have 150,000 orders to go. Guess I'll be coming into work
several times this holiday weekend and I'll probably still be running
this at Christmas time too.

Typically I choose a range of orders to save and delete. 6 months of
orders is the max I can do in a day of full blast interactive processing
(only person on the computer). After starting this archive early in
the morning you can leave for about 5-6 hours and come back to answer
the questions about the tape(s). If you wait for the tapes to complete
(usually half an hour) you must answer another question and the delete
procedure runs for another 8-10 hours. Once that part is done you now
have a terminal sitting idle with another message waiting. In my case
because I have super user authority it is important to go into work
again to answer any remaining questions and log the device off. Don't
forget to change the system value for QINACTITV to *none or OS400 may
end your session if it is left idle for too long.
