Thanks for the input, I've gotten some solid recommendations on Cognex
DMR-7500.

They are expensive ($2400), but I'm told it's worth it.

Re: [MAPICS-L] 2D Data Matrix Bar Coding

Are you using a scriber to do your markings? Is the material you are
marking metal? We have just started testing some 2d on metal (one of our
options is to use scribers). I know there is a fairly new reader from
symbol designed to read direct part markings, here is the link of the
company we are working with

Subject: [MAPICS-L] 2D Data Matrix Bar Coding

Hello again! I know this might be a bit off track - but I can't think
of a better group to ask!

We have begun marking our parts with 2d Data Matrix bar codes, however
they are the dot-peen type.

This means our bar codes look like this:
http://www.applegate.co.uk/images/sicmarking.jpg

Not this: http://www.da-n.co.uk/blogs/lycett/media/datamatrix.gif

My question is if any of you have had any success finding a reader for
the dot peen variety?
We've tried two that work on the high contrast version, but not the
dot-peen type.

Thanks for letting my air my esoteric quandary!
