Re: Joe Phelan's question about purchasing history:
Joe,
When I worked for IBM you and I did UOST testing for the Purchasing module
prior to it's release in S/36 MAPICS with the "multimod" update. It had
been "acquired" from GMD at that point - although I don't know the actual
arrangements. So that was prior to 1988 when I left the company. When I
get home from my vacation I'll check to see if I have any calendars left
from that era to see a more specific date.
I remember that during that UOST project we had a guy who acted as the GMD
liason for the project to communicate problems we reported in the code
testing - and that it was very "buggy". Like we took menu options and got
RPG halts. Not something that should happen during UOST. And as I recall
the documentation was less than acceptable according to what we had come
to expect from IBM.
I'll try to get more info.
Can I ask why you are gathering this info ?

This is now happening to every transaction entered.
Can anyone give me some ideal what might be causing this and how we can
fix it?

I'm trying to fill in the historical timeline for the MAPICS Purchasing
application. I know that it was originally written by GMD, and became part
of MAPICS in 1984. But what happened to GMD? Were they acquired? Do they
still exist today? When did IBM (or whomever) acquire the Purchasing
"intellectual property" (source code)?

Purchasing and Other GMD modules and/or modifications(3 decimals inventory
trns, locations, quality, batch lots size, etc....) were included in Mapics
2 for S36 and S38. After that GMD became a consulting company.

I believe there was a company called MARCAM also in the mix. Not sure
exactly where the fit
into the time line but if I'm not mistaken MARCAM was a seperate entity.
As best as I can remember, which is slipping faster each year.

Hi Jack,
Thank you for your response.
Marcam purchased the rights to MAPICS from IBM in 1993. I'm trying to
establish when IBM bought the rights of Purchasing from GMD. I think it
was 1986. Any thoughts?

You are correct Joe, I thought that prior to that they had a purchasing
module.
I could be wrong, there has been a lot of changes and spins since I first
sat
down in front of MAPICS in 1980.
