I probably would go to R7 (especially since the apps you listed are pretty
basic).  R6 and R7 are pretty much identical in the base (anytime a PTF
comes out for R6, it comes out at the same time for R7 and vice versa).  If
your customer is going to spend the time and expense to upgrade, why not go
to the latest and greatest.  It would analogous to spending lots of money to
upgrade all your PCs from W95(R4) to W98(R6).

I would, however, suggest that they start looking at migrating their S36
code to RPGIV.  There are not many of us dinosaurs left out there that can
still read this stuff (especially if it uses LDA substitution).  The longer
they wait to convert it, the more it will cost them.  I would even suggest
using Linoma Software migration tools to expedite this.  Very inexpensive
for what it does for you - it can even convert it to /Free - and it will
migrate it based on OS version.  However, as we all know, if there is bad
code, it only converts to newer style bad code.
