I agree, don't reinvent if at all possible. The reason I asked the question is 95% of the time they are asking for standard MAPICS function (cost, capacity, etc.) without wanting to setup MAPICS to perform the function (i.e. setup the production facilities correctly) and so they expect IT to "solve" the problem for them. If it is for cost reasons there is a tendency to want costs detailed beyond what is necessary to provide "accurate" costing. If it is for capacity, there is a tendency to create capacity requirements monitoring where it is not required. If it is for scheduling by machine then what they are saying is that each machine is not "equivalent" to the others in the work center and therefore need to be separated out. This needs to be done in the routing files as well for changes to the work center files will not be enough. The question becomes, where does the data reside regarding these machines if not in MAPICS? And WHY? If the data is kept outside of MAPICS because there is no good business reason for it to be in MAPICS, then great lets keep it outside MAPICS. I'd use the user exits in PMC to write to a non-MAPICS file. You just need to put "reason codes" on the "off" transaction. If there is a good business reason to want the data, then in almost all cases it is best to "model" the real world in MAPICS. Just some thoughts to help you avoid some very (VERY) common mistakes. Our communication has been informal (email) but I can ask him. I guess they will require the ability to collect cost, hours, capacity, etc. all they can. but again, I have not talked to him. I was just curious first if this was achievable by somebody before spending any efforts from my part in reinventing the wheel... Thanks! I'm just wondering what data and what will be done with it? Is it for costing, capacity, ....? There are several possible solutions depending upon the objectives." Thank you! As I said before, when employees do JOB OFF, we would like to know the information for each one of the machines separately but within the work center.
