Thanx everybody for helping!! It is now up and running.

I tried the printer type as a 3812 earlier but I did not know about the
system driver program (*HPPJLDRV). That was a big help.

I also set up a new User Defined Object, the one that was created on our
system earlier did not work very well.

Rob, what is a Workstation Customizing Object, and what does it do? How
would I go about displaying/creating one for future use?

Thanx again,

Nick,

I have several HP2100 attached to our network and they print fine from the
AS400.
Some of the differences I saw in your config and ours was model type Ours
is configured as model type 1 not 0.
You also need to create a user-defined object for the Printer with object
type *PSFCFG and make sure you have set the system driver program type to
*HPPJLDRV
The printer type we use is 3812 in the device configuration. Good luck
this should work.

Subject: Setting up a new printer

Hello everyone,

I know this isn't about MAPICS but, here goes.

I have an HP 2100 printer I am trying to setup on my AS/400. I can't hook
it up locally, so I am setting it up as a remote, using TCP/IP. Also, it
is connected to our LAN. When I print something from our network, it works
fine. When I PING it from the AS400, it pings good.

The problem is, when I set it up by creating a Device Description for it, I
can get the SPLF to the PND status, but no further (no messages, nothing).
After I hold by output, and end the Writer/Printer the only printout I get
is 3 little smiley faces in the top left corner of my paper, 2 are white
and 1 is black.

Here are the parms I am using to set it up with:
CRTDEVPRT devd(ITTEST) devcls(*LAN) type(*IPDS) model(0) lanattach(*IP)
afp(*YES) port(9100) online(*YES) font(011)
formfeed(*autocut) sepdrawer(*FILE) seppgm(*NONE) prterrmsg(*INQ)
msgq(*CTLD) acctmr(170) imgcfg(*NONE) maxpndrqs(6) prtcvt(*YES)
formdf(F1C10110) rmtlocname("my IP address of my printer") usrdfnopt(*NONE)
usrdfnobj(*NONE) usrdtatfm(*NONE) usrdrvpgm(*NONE) text("IT Laser Printer")
rmtnetid(*NETATR) wscst(*NONE) aut(LIBCRTAUT). This will create my device
and outq.

I think this is why I write software and don't normally work with the
hardware end of things.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
