We have a program that we got from Arbor Solutions (www.arbsol.com) that
will let you do BOM, Indented BOM (with or without phantom blow thru), Where
an item is used (single level and multi level), Inventory lookups, Order
lookups, etc. They haven't marketed it for a few years but it is still a
staple here.

Kind of on the same note does anyone have a program that would kind of do
the opposite? where the raw material would be entered and it would blow
through the bill from the bottom up to find the places that it is finally
used? The example below would return finished product 1 and finished product
2 and not return the sub assemblies

finished product 1 finished product 2
             | |
         sub-assembly |
             | |
         sub-assembly sub-assembly
              \ /
                  raw material

I have a similar program with some of the fun coding in it. It uses
recursion (sub procedure calls itself as it spins down through the
bill).
It's not very big but I found it interesting. I would be glad to share
it
  if anyone is interested.

They are used to retrieve a fully indented BOM from either PDM or EPDM.
To do this "manually" would require some pretty fun coding. Using these
programs, you just call them and they return a group of records at a
  time.

  Pete,

I don't know what you are trying to accomplish, but I have a series of
programs that takes a top assembly, blows through the indented bill of
materials and creates an ORDATA record for each assembly (Item type 1)
and optionally the starting top assembly. The batch is then closed and
processed through the normal Mapics procedures by the requester. As an
interim step, the potential manufacturing orders are displayed for
modification / deletion. Let me know if you have any interest and I will
  forward you the source programs.

  Good Afternoon group.

Does anyone have a BOM explosion pgm (that they are willing to share)
that will either generate a report or a work file that will mimic how
Mapics generates its records into MODATA..

  Thanks in Advance

  Pete
