Jimmy, Interesting. Both of your issues have to do with what MAPICS refers to "cross-over" fixes. That means, fixes that affect more than one version of the software. Admittedly they are the most time consuming to fix as the support team is required to re-create the "bug" in multiple versions of the code. (i.e. R5, R6, R7 etc.) It has also been a problem with MAPICS for many years, ever since they achieved ISO 9001 certification. I suspect their processes just aren't written to ensure checking other versions. We have several related to EWP just not working on many of the "screens" The biggest one we have is related to licensing. Even after applying SH14672 it just does not work. We continue to have problems with licenses not releasing when the user signs off, both in EWP (Green Screen) and Browser. Support requested that we supply job logs and print screens. I have no idea how they expect us to find the time to create, document and forward job logs for every user that signsoff and signs on the system. Is anyone else experiencing "cross over" or "license" issues? One that is open (a problem with the R5 to R7 migration program not handling the uninstall of PDM in leiu of EPDM properly) that the ticket was created on Oct 21. A second one that was closed and took a couple weeks from start to finish (IFM allowing copy/reverse for paylists that had a check generated), evidentally a fix that had not been back ported to R5. -Jimmy -----Original Message----- From: kdfox@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:kdfox@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 7:54 AM To: 'MAPICS ERP System Discussion' Subject: RE: MAPICS Development Team is being moved to India? Hi All, I want to reiterate what Robert Russell is saying. BROWSER DEVELOPMENT IS NOT BEING DONE IN INDIA. Roberts Group Paragon is the ONLY group that is improving MAPICS. The delays in getting MAPICS converted to Browser (Client/Power Architecture) are MAPICS issues and not those of Paragon (In my humble opinion.) In my environment I am dealing with EWP and Browser. Mostly I try and convince everyone of the worthlessness of EWP because it does not work consistently. I do not know if the EWP maintenance programming (i.e. bug fixes) has been moved to India or not. But I will second the opinion that it is buggy and MAPICS is slow to correct. In my environment, I also have to support Oracle, PeopleSoft (Enterprise, EnterpriseOne and world!) as well as SAP. I can assure you that the MAPICS PTF process, while flawed, is second to none. The best way to get things done is to open a service request and FOLLOWUP. Many requests are made and then closed with no response from the requester (you?), so MAPICS determines that it must not be a real big problem. I have two questions for the group: 1. How many APARS do you have open and/or are on the waiting list for? 2. What is the average time you've been waiting? Ted, I can assure you that Browser Developement is NOT being done in India. I am sorry you are having problems with switching environments. We have been learning alot about deploying this new technology and are constantly working to improve it. I do know there is work beeing done to streamline working with multiple environments. I do not know if you have opened an issue with the response line about your situation, if you have not, I recommend you do so. Yes, sometimes these issues take some time to resolve, but I can assure you that the MAPICS and Paragon teams are committed to resolving them. I am forwarding this on to someone from support to look into your issue. And this probably explains why Release 7 Ewp and Powerlink (Browser) are still not really ready for prime time. How long has Release 7 been out? Awhile now! We have a lot to Ewp users and there are still many screens that go to "green screen" look and function - meaning they have to leave the mouse to enter a number or hit a function key. Then we have minor problems with PowerLink where the change to environments using the drop down causes the "Browser" to hang for about an hour or so why the new environment JARs are set up and if we go back to original env. they are set up again, also we can't add blank lines to templates (function just dosen't work), we can get rid of column seperators in templates if we add them (function just dosen't work)... Browser is just a nightmare that can be absolutely frustrating. I had to come up with my own work arounds to switch environments after messing with it for hours. I remember a couple years ago we had a guy on this list ranting about mapics and I didn't feel his pain or understand really all his frustration very well... I understand now, you just grow weary and annoyed, especially when you have users continually asking if mapics fixed something yet or reporting more problems. ----- Original Message ----- From: <kdfox@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'MAPICS ERP System Discussion'" <mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2004 3:55 PM Subject: RE: MAPICS Development Team is being moved to India? > Most of the development has been done in India for 2 years.
