We are a small shop as well, we have 5 total in our IS Department. Four of us have complete access to every environment, the other person is our PC Network person & he does not have full access, no need to really. We have been asked before if we allow too much access to production data & our feeling is if you are worried about a programmer gaining access to production data vs test data, then do you really want them to be writing programs that will be in production? We do not have the number of staff members to assign different people different areas they are responsible for, so everyone does whatever is necessary to get the job done. It is really difficult when you have limited staff to only allow one person to do a task, what happens when that person is sick, on vacation, or maternity leave? I guess you could just change your job title from Programmer to Security Administrator, make your security changes, then switch job titles again.. :-) Steve Jones Candy.Hein@xxxxxxxxxxxx Sent by: mapics-l-bounces+sjones=hpproducts.net@xxxxxxxxxxxx 10/21/2004 05:38 PM Please respond to MAPICS ERP System Discussion <mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx cc Fax to Subject PROGRAMMER ACCESS TO PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT My boss asked me to pose this question on the MAPICS user group list. We are a small shop with 2 full-time programmers and 2 part-time contractors. The full time programmers are responsible for setting up MAPICS security for users. Part of the audit comments during our Sarbanes-Oxley audit was to eliminate all programmers access to the production environment including security (of course they have no suggestion on who would set up security). We would like to know how other small shops handle this situation. Do your programmers have access to the production environment? Who is responsible for establishing MAPICS security on your system? Thank you, Candy Hein _______________________________________________ This is the MAPICS ERP System Discussion (MAPICS-L) mailing list To post a message email: MAPICS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or email: MAPICS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/mapics-l.
