It's not.

I've seen shops actually running with the system date set to the 1980's to
get around it!

Some shops custom wrote their own Y2K conversion.

   Hi group,
I have a friend that is working at a company that is still running an old
S/36 MAPICS II implementation (accounting only), and he asked me if there
was a way to run the batch file clean up that occurs at the end of MAPICS
backups without running the backups. Obviously, they are loooong off
support. (But it says something about the stability of the software,
   doesn't it?)
I know this has come up with current MAPICS on this thread a number of
times, but I never printed one of those off as it isn't an issue for my
shop. Can someone let me know how it can be done today? That may still
work with the old stuff, too.
