Shawn:

It would be prudent to take a very hard look at the types of challenges you are
having with MAPICS. In my experience the challenges with any planning system
is not in the software's ability to plan but rather the planning software's
ability to support execution-related needs. Typical execution-related
questions include:

* how much of this PO is ultimately required for a specific customer order, or;
* which customer orders will be affected by the late availability of "this"
part, or;
* what must be manufactured today to meet today's, tomorrow's, the next day's
shipments, or;
* where in the manufacturing process is this critical component, or;
* what is the minimum that must be received from vendor X today to meet
customer shipments in n days.

The list goes on but the point is NO planning system will address these issues,
nor should they. Planning and execution require differing views of the data
and different reports. How different? Count the number of custom queries at
your users' disposal specifically to address the execution challenges.
Everyone of the queries is attempting to answer the question "I know you need
everything but what do you need first?".

So ...

If the shortcomings are in the area of execution there is no greener pasture.
Jumping to any other ERP system to shore up the execution shortcomings will,
frankly, be a waste of time, energy and money.

There is an answer but getting into the specifics is a violation of this list's
guidelines.

Subject: Client Architecture - Browser?

We are currently running R6 and have decided to review other ERP
packages since MAPICS doesn't handle some of the situations/configs we
have. We created a Pluses and Minuses list for MAPICS and have recently
gone over this with our MAPICS consultants. In the meeting is seemed
that the response to our issues was that the new "client architecture"
will address this. I'm assuming this is the "browser" version.

Is anybody running this?

What sort of issues have you seen?

Would you recommend this?

Thanks for any feedback.
