Michael, Well...it depends on how you are configured and what your goals are. I am assuming that your "black-hole" is a miscellaneous issue transaction (IS). If all you want to do is to track your inventory on the floor VS in a parts cage, your initial idea is just what we are doing. It will work for you assuming that you have a controlled warehouse. It is a simple, yet quite effective solution. We have a number of inventory stocking locations for the various areas of our manufacturing floor. Inventory is transferred (TW) from the cage to the floor location(s) where it is subsequently backflushed from there. Be careful with this method because cycle counting your cage inventory will not identify all process errors. Your material usage variances, BOM inaccuracies will all be hidden in your floor locations. Having said that; it is very important to cycle count these locations. Cycle counting your floor locations isn't impossible but is challenging. Does anyone have any experience with creating a WIP location or warehouse. Here is our problem we issue raw material to MO's basically into a black hole. We then RM Finished Goods into the same warehouse. Our problem is we lose track of what may still be left in WIP. We have been asked to come up with a solution that would give us a perpetual of WIP. The idea is simple but I don't know how to get the system to do it. Have a warehouse/location for WIP, transfer raw material for MO's there then have this warehouse/location backflushed when an MO is RM into Finished Goods inventory. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. > Regards, > Michael August Sr. Programmer / Analyst > Dialight Corporation > > > > > > The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or legally privileged material.
